    1. I am loving this trilogy I have learned so much about the time of Christ and the culture and feel of that place and time It has added insight into the Bible stories It also has a very compelling story with the fictional characters This book had a lot of intrigue and clever plotting I am very impressed with all of the authors work to do all the research, depict the Savior and his disciples, and create dynamic and authentic characters that fit into a complex plot.

    3. I loved this book as much and maybe than the first book It was much easier to get into the book knowing all of the characters already, and, again, I loved the portrayal of Christ and how much love he had for everyone While reading this book, I ve wanted so much to come closer to him and become like him, which I think means that Lund achieved his purpose Christ showed so much love to his disciples and friends and I loved feeling a sense of intimacy with the stories. There were still a few explan [...]

    4. I still have a hard time with what I call Brother Lund s Americanization of the language and circumstances portrayed in this book However, the story is fun, well crafted and faith promoting.

    8. After finishing the first book in this excellent series of historical fiction at the time of Christ, I had high expectations for the sequel and, to cut to the chase, this one delivered Very good. And yet, at the same time, it wasn t what I had expected The things I loved about the first book the cultural insights especially were present but not the central focus at least to me This wasn t so much an education on Judea and Rome at the time of Christ though there was still some of that Instead I wa [...]

    10. This book was good I got a little bored when Simeon spent half the book tricking Yabbin It could have been a lot shorter and you wouldn t have missed much I was a little annoyed at the romance after 900 pages of flirting Miriam gives her love one boring kiss Lund knows his history, but he is a little lame with the romance.Lines I loved Whoever does not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter he that has found one has found a treasure.I won t [...]

    11. I looked forward to reading Volume 2 of The Kingdom and the Crown series and it did was as exceiting and informative as the first one This story is told from those who encountered the Christ and the impact on their lives One was the daughter of one of the ruling religious sects who accepting Jesus into her heart cuase a riff between her and her father and her struggle is told in vivid details that I could see her struggle in my minds eye Another main character was Simeon who had to come to terms [...]

    12. I enjoyed this book much than the first one I came much closer to the characters, particularly Simeon and Miriam I miss the playful banter between Simeon and Yehuda, though I hope that he ll be able to accept Jesus eventually.Reading this book was quite refreshing I didn t feel any priority to this book, so I wasn t under constant pressure to read it It also wasn t like reading Harry Potter I didn t have to pace myself so that I wouldn t finish it too soon and be left sad that the ride hadn t g [...]

    13. OK Part of the reason I loved this book is because I m drawn to the fictional characters and especially the romance between Simeon and Miriam, but I also loved how Lund took lessons that Christ taught and kind of explained them or perhaps one interpretation of what Christ meant I love how the characters discuss the teachings and bring their own insights into the discussion It helps me to see things in Christ s teachings that perhaps I hadn t seen before or helped remind me of things I already kn [...]

    14. I d really like to rate this a 2.5.I was hesitant to read this series for two reasons I m not a fan of Lund s writing style, and I was skeptical about how he would portray the Savior The way he portrayed the Savior was good He did fictionalize some of his conversations, moods, etc But I felt like Lund stayed true to a good character of Christ. The writing style was actually the most difficult for me to work through Many times I d be right in the middle of the story only to feel like then he d tak [...]

    15. I will put this review on all three books in the series to blanket statement them. These are wonderful books based during the life and time of Christ I knew how it would ultimately turn out for Christ of course but they gave great insight on how life may have been and the character of Christ Although the scriptures are wonderful they are not written in a way that we can really pull out the true personality of any man in them These books made all of the important characters come to life I would al [...]

    16. And who would have thought the 2nd book in the series could have been better than the first I love this one better I am loving and of the characters I also am learning so much about the Jewish culture and what they believe In this book I also learned of the Roman empire I am in sort of disgust by how the Romans demand duty over family giving of wives, suicides, and the babies Back to the story, I liked the way he portrays Jesus He is so loving, caring, and giving It makes me wish I was there, [...]

    17. If you want to better understand the Savior, Jesus Christ, then read this book It is historical fiction about the events during the time of the Saviors life It puts so much of what was going on around the time of the Savior into context You can better understand how powerful the Saviors message is and how much hate there was for him by his enemys and therefor you understand about him This is my favorite Series of book by far For example, I learned in this book that would walk around the land of [...]

    18. What I love most about this book is that the people who are truly trying to be disciples of Christ are trying to figure out what that means and to change thier life accordingly They search, ponder, pray, make mistakes and then start all over again I also love the historical facts, the development of the charecters and, yes, romance Obviously there is alot of pain and sadness in the third book, we all know Christs story, but there has to be sadness for his disciples as well It will not only be ha [...]

    19. This is the second book in Gerald Lund s The Kingdom and The Crown series and because it s a sizeable tome 573 pages of small typeface print it took a few days of illness to bring it to the top of my pile But I found it absorbing and than enough to keep me reading It continues the story of Jewess Miriam bat Mordechai, and the zealot Simeon bar David The setting is the time of Jesus ministry and the effect he had on the common people as well as the Pharisees and Saducees, the leaders and the Roma [...]

    20. My thought about this book are very similar to the first in the series Gerald Lund does a good job including major events from Christ s life, I enjoy the commentary and discussion of the followers of Christ after he teaches, it is interesting to learn about Jewish traditions and Roman traditions in this volume , and I really like the chapter notes with further historical insights and scripture references. This volume relies on the fictional family and includes very little of Christ s actual teac [...]

    21. I enjoyed this book for the most part This book was about the fictitious family than about Jesus More about their struggles in accepting him as the Messiah and how the people of the time politicians and religious leaders were starting to not like what was happening where Jesus was concerned The story with the family has in s and out s with Pilot and the Romans in this book and I guess I started becoming a little weary of some of that part of the story However, this story is still very fun to re [...]

    22. Second in the Kingdom and the Crown trilogy Loves this one as much as the first I like it when people were scratching their heads trying to figure out what Jesus s parables meant and how the author goes on to illuminate them is some of the best I ve read Jesus is central to what happens, but not the lead figure in the story The lead characters are Jews trying to figure out what it would mean to live as Jesus asked them members of the Sanhedrin trying to figure out how to quell this threat to the [...]

    23. So, due to a busy schedule, it took some time to read the first book in this three book set B c of summer, I was able to quickly read through the 2nd book and am now ready to read the 3rd I ve learned quite a bit about Roman history traditions of the time, as well as Jewish history traditions, probably many of which are still practiced today Bro Lund is an excellent writer I HAD to read the 2nd book b c when I was finished with the first one, it was as if all the characters lives were suspended [...]

    24. The title says Vol 2 but it is actually Vol 1.These books were all right but not fabulous They gave me a little better understanding about Jewish culture at the time of Christ but I didn t feel like I gained any greater insight into the actual doings of the Savior I did gain a little insight and perspective in His teachings but not much I also didn t feel any emotional attachment to the Savior character in this book Disappointing but understandable as the author rightly limited himself to keepin [...]

    25. I finished reading this book shortly before Christmas As I read the New Testament this year, this book and it s predecessor, Fishers of Men helped me visualize the Holy Land and understand the political and cultural climate that our Savior found himself living in I am grateful for the careful research that Gerald Lund gave this project I appreciated the footnotes at the end of each chapter that shared which Gospel that particular incident could be found and what historical documents he used to e [...]

I loved this book as much or than the first one Simeon is such a strong character I love his boldness It gets him into trouble sometimes, but that what makes the story so believable Miriam is also one of my favorite characters In my opinion this book has less doctrine and cultural references I love it all the same Such an amazing story Last night I finished this book It was late, but I nearly jumped on and had the third book sent to my kindle so I didn t have to stop reading Highly recommend [...]

    27. I read this series one after another, because I was totally into the whole fictional story wrapped around the teachings of Christ How will the author bring Christ s teachings into a fictional character s life Beautifully, was my answer There was a wonderful spirit in this book that touched my understanding of the times of Christ The extreme greed, evil and misunderstanding versus the peaceful teachings of Christ The overarching pressure of Roman domination was the earliest revelation to me.

    28. I think the thing I love the most about Gerald Lund s books is that they teach me so much with so little effort on my part The time line of historical events becomes clear to me, and he is so good at portraying the day to day life of different cultures and peoples I learned so much about ancient Rome and the Holy Land in this series, and I loved it One thing I would say, though, is that the pace of this series is a bit on the slow side The books are long and take FOREVER to get through Worth it [...]
