    6. This book is a spooky but fun serving for children aged seven to nine, tapping into their fear of ghost stories and pirates It s a hilarious tale about the sometimes horrible way in which siblings treat one another Brothers Marty and Will are on holiday on the wild Irish coast Marty is always playing practical jokes on his brothers, including younger brother Will But when Marty tells the bloodcurdling story of the cutthroat pirate Captain Crow with plenty of blood and guts , Will ends up terrifi [...]

    7. I absolutely love Eoin Colfer s Aretemis Fowl books but was unaware that he had written some shorter books for slightly younger readers so when I saw this I just had to read it.The book is written from the prospective of Will, a 9 year old boy on holiday in a caravan with his family His eldest brother likes to scare him with ghost stories and one such story is the local Legend of Captain Crow s Teeth.I thought this book was excellent and would appeal to young boys trying longer books for the fir [...]

Finally a really fun boy s book Eion Colfer is smart and fun to read, he doesn t talk down to his audience and is not afraid to be silly You get a whole array of experiences in this book from funny, to scarry, to coming of age The family in Colfer s story is so much fun from the 5 year old brother who s decided to start using baby talk again to get a way with , to the twins who sing songs and shake their butts at Will mocking him for going to dance with girls I think showing boys in a non moshy [...]

    10. From the author of the Artemis Fowl series, a clever chapter book for youngish readers Part family relationship story 5 brothers in the same house , part horror despite the insistence on science and phosphorescence, there s some horror and suspense , part comedy, this is a fun book featuring a 9 year old main character There are several pictures per chapter, but the hundred pages is mostly text This makes me understand, appreciate, and sympathize with young boys better I didn t choose this book, [...]

    11. This had the potential to be a terrific little book for early primary aged children but I felt it didn t develop as it could have The ending was a little abrupt, like the author had put a limit on page numbers and when he reached that point he simply closed out the chapter he was writing.Still, it was witty and quick and my children enjoyed it.

    14. I am a fan of most of Colfer s books and am of the opinion that he is one of the most gifted children s writers of this generation I am afraid however, that I came to Captain Crow far too late in my life and was unable to enjoy it It is perhaps for kids only, I think
