    2. That Eighteenth Summer tells the story of Ollie and how his brother s death has not only changed his eighteenth summer but also his entire life, forever. What I love most about this book is how authentic Ollie s voice was It completely mirrored that of a teenager who has been through a lot The emotions in the storytelling were very palpable that Ollie didn t need to say it for me to feel it.Apart from the grief and pain, I was able to see anger, confusion, neediness, fear, wonder, and surprisingl [...]

    4. 4 StarsThis story definitely got me right in the feels cavity I was crying before the end of the first chapter, and I m known for being impressed by any story that can make my face leak like that The story follows eighteen year old Ollie Hannigan who has just finished school and plans to enjoy his final summer at home before he fulfills his long term goal of enlisting in the military, just like his older brother, Benjam All Ollie s plans and expectations of what his life was meant to be abruptly [...]

    5. Another of those stories where five stars simply isn t enough. This story is free, not that this is a reason to give it five stars, and quite frankly, had I paid for it, I d have been saying exactly the same thing This story is beautiful. It is the story of Ollie, an eighteen year old who reaches the end of high school and knows, as he has always known, that he will enlist in the US Army It s heroic, cool, and his brother is a soldier It s what he was always going to do.The rest of the storyI coul [...]

    7. 4 starsAlthough a romance, I think of this as Oliver s coming of age story In his eighteenth summer, he loses both his hero his big brother Benjam and his direction in life He s grieving and he s lost This story is about him finding his way again I loved Ollie He acted and thought like a real 18 year old and, really, what 18 year old ever truly knows their place in the world even without going through what Ollie has been through This is also a story of first love Ollie meets Luca at Benjam s fu [...]

    8. Absolutely lovely story Heart wrenching a lot of the time, but so worth the potential tears Ollie and Luca are wonderful, and while I wish aspects of their relationship could have been explored, the end still left me feeling warm and happy and satisfied Really enjoyed this one

    9. I really love a book that makes life real.It is important to be comfortable placing yourself into the story as one of the characters, or at least a close observer to the action I have not lost a brother like this hero , but I have lost both parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins that were close It does mess with your mind and your heart until the grief process becomes manageable or you die The crazy thoughts keep you uncertain and the emotions keep you disconnected from reality, with o [...]

    10. This story was written off my prompt on the Love is open road event in the MM Romance group, and I was so excited to read it This is the first book I ve ever read by Raine O Tierney and I will definitely be reading I originally came up with this idea as a story I could write, but as time went by I knew I probably wouldn t write it, but wanted to read it so bad so I submitted it I have to say Raine did such a wonderful job and I m glad I didn t try to take this into my own hands She got into the [...]

    11. Okay, I m probably not going to make much sense to many people, but this book reminded me a lot of Australian YA novels I mean, in spirit In case you didn t know, Australian YA is the shit many of top tier YA books come from Australia, and if you can t figure just why are people so crazy about Young Adult genre, chances are high that the best Australian authors will be the ones to make you understand. There s a subtle but tangible difference in how those and American books usually approach and ta [...]

    14. DNF 50%This one has such high ratings on here and I just do not understand why The writing is not good, the plot is meh and a bit awkward since it s about two people who find each other at a funeral for someone they were EXTREMELY close with, and the sex scene was laughable Actually I was sending quotes from it to Dani and dying of laughter I was hoping there would be something redeeming about it but I just kinda gave up because this was not the type of book I wanted to waste my time on.Read thi [...]

    16. This book started off with a chapter that was so sad, it made me cry I had to put it down for a bit, read other books and finally when I was ready I went back to it Then I couldn t put it down I think it was very well written It did get a bit tedious waiting for Ollie to finally decide what he is going to do with his life enlist go to school get a job But I liked the ending because they get a sort of new start, I won t give it away.Recommended.

    17. I really don t appreciate author manipulation Starting off a story with a funeral and having that death color the entire story guarantees strong emotion But I don t particularly enjoy that emotion Maybe it was called for in the prompt Despite my resentment, this was a wonderful and insightful story full of great characters, a moving plot, and some hot sex.

    22. Ah the time of AIM, MySpace, Modems, Landlines, etc Brought me back to my teenage years but not in a heart warming way P The author does a good job of channeling the teen persona and teens are really annoying The narration and internal thinking I was comfortable with, but the dialogues with Ollie were so annoying because he and his teen friends really do speak like teenagers and express teenage thoughts which still need maturation case in point, Elizabeth s behavior through most of the book I w [...]

    23. I picked this one up as a freebie on , not knowing anything about it or the author Boy was I pleasantly surprised It s a coming of age story, Ollie Hannigan has just turned eighteen and is certain he knows what he wants to follow in his big brother Benjam s footsteps and enlist in the army But Benjam gets killed in combat and Ollie s world turns upside down Not the least due to his brother s best friend Luca, Ollie has never been interested in another guy but Luca is handsome and kind and wants [...]

    24. This book left me very conflicted.I thought that in many ways it was a good book because it showed well the different ways people have of dealing with bereavement and coming to terms with the loss of someone they loved and respected. It also was good on what it is like being seventeen eighteen, gay, and in love. However I have given a low rating because of the way it dealt with the emotional sexual relationship between Oliver and Luca I found the relationship exploitative on both sides and the sex [...]

    25. I struggled a little with the GFY aspect of this book, mostly because I worried if Ollie s grief was impacting his feelings and his connection with Luca He was so young to have deal with this family tragedy with so little support Elizabeth really annoyed me as even at 18 she was old enough to realize that life did not revolve around her Without Luca and Mr Paice, Ollie really would have been on his own for a while there Luca s strength and perseverance was admirable and the fact that he supporte [...]
