    About Laura Bradford

    1. Aka Elizabeth Lynn Casey. While spending a rainy afternoon at a friend s house nearly forty years ago, Laura Bradford fell in love with writing over a stack of blank paper, a box of crayons, and a freshly sharpened number two pencil. Those early attempts at the craft had her writing and illustrating stories for young children Wise beyond her years, Laura saved her first writing attempt in a hand decorated shoe box complete with sparkly stickers and moved on to her next idea Her second book O Casey s Wish was so utterly brilliant, she sent it off to a well known New York publishing house at the tender age of ten, confident she was on the verge of becoming the next Don Freeman Corduroy or Shel Silverstein Giving Tree Months later, she received her first form letter rejection. While she wasn t of the mindset to save that first crushing blow for posterity, Laura did save the original copy of this particular literary masterpiece in the event the letter was a mistake Desperate to prove her flexibility as a writer, Laura soon found herself dabbling in jokes for her Girl Scout troop s newsletter , stories of angst a somewhat autobiographical look at her teenage years , movie reviews for the Xavier University Newswire , and countless news and feature articles for newspapers in CT, SC, TN, and MO It wasn t until Laura was home raising children of her own though, that she was finally able to dust off that rainy day dream and bring it back to its original form writing fiction Today, she is a bestselling mystery author with Berkley Prime Crime Penguin Publishing , and an award winning romance author with Harlequin American She lives in New York with her family Oh, and if you meet Laura at a book event in the future, ask her about O Casey s Wish It tends to travel with her everywhere she goes.

    1. I really enjoyed this book Elise is a new reporter in town and gets to start off with a murder When bodies start turning up, everyone is on edge Mitch the detective in charge is determined to stop this killer before they hit again. The mystery was excellent when it starts to tie in with a fortune teller, I found it unique I kept guessing between a couple of people, I think I figured it a little before Mitch and Elise The characters are likable, and you feel the pain of the people who have lost a [...]

    3. Originally published as Jury of One, Deadly Readings is a good solid debut mystery The book s Jersey Shore setting rang true to this fan of Chris Grabenstein s Ceepak and Boyle mysteries When tourist dollars are involved, solving crime quickly is the name of the game.Elise Jenkins and Mitch Burns are the two main characters in this book, and they are almost too good to be true I almost wanted to rough them up with a fault or two to make them realistic However, what really frosted my cake was th [...]

    5. I love Laura Bradford s cozies, written as herself and as Elizabeth Lynn Casey I was equally enthralled by JURY OF ONE, apparently her first published work The tone is definitely not cozy, filled as it is with fast paced suspense and downright terror It s very well written and plotted With plenty of red herrings, I wasn t sure until the very end whodunit The setting is a lovely waterfront town in New Jersey, both family oriented and tourist friendly The characters are believable, and their motiv [...]

    6. Strong outing in this first book of the Jenkins and Burns mystery I haven t read any of the later books but I will be doing so soon The mystery was well plotted with reasonable suspects and fair clues but I did not figure out who the murder was I enjoyed the interaction between Elise and Mitch and look forward to their growing romance For the most part the secondary characters added to the atmosphere and realism of the story I read this book in the collection Death with Malice 5 Killer Mysteries [...]

    7. Detective Mitch Burns is on the hunt for a serial killer in a small town in southern Jersey He is helped by reporter Elise Jenkins who finds a lead in the investigation which opens the door for Mitch This is a romantic suspense novel but the romance between Mitch and Elise never gets beyond a few dates not even a single kiss So much a mystery than a romance I found the life of a reporter to be boring and tedious I m not at all interested in small town life and found these parts of the story irr [...]

    11. A great cozy mystery This is the first book in a series and I am so excited to start the next one Elise and Mitch are very likable characters and seem like such a cute couple All of the characters really came to life even the minor ones The clues that led to the villain were well told but still left you guessing until the end Excellent book.

    12. Re published under the title of Deadly Readings Great murder mystery with a touch of romance A series of murders in a New Jersey beach resort town investigated by the only detective on the police force and a brand new reporter in town You can imagine where the romance came in.A quick read, entertaining and enough bad guys to make you think.

    14. Mildly enjoyable The basic premise for this mystery was fairly complex but the story developed with little detail As a reader, I barely had time to wonder what was going to happen when everything was neatly tidied up Just OK.
