    1. Reviewed at Bitten By Paranormal RomanceWhat a delightful, remarkable, and unexpectedly peculiar world Ms Betita has created in her rendering of the 17th century Caribbean Yes, you will find pirates, but you will also find out of place electrical devices, updated plumbing, among other strange oddities The style of writing is refreshing as it blends the plain spoken unrepentantly crude , modern day Emily with the pirate ese of the regular crew of characters I m not sure if paranormal romance is t [...]

Swashbuckling heroes, pirate ships on beautiful seas, evil witches, ipods.Wait, ipods K, that part took a minute to get used to But trust me it all works and makes sense The world Emily Pawes finds herself in isn t quite like the Caribbean from her own world s past Here magic and modern day, and even beyond, converge with surprising results In The Kraken s Mirror Emily is swept through a magic mirror into an alternate 1697 and to the enchanted island of Tortuga Little does she know that her fall [...]

    7. Posted at yummymenandkickasschicks You know how sometimes you read the blurb for a book and you think it s going to be good but after you read it you wonder if the person who wrote said blurb even read the book Then there is the flip side You read the blurb, think it s going to be good but it ends up, while being a little different from what you expected from reading said blurb, even better than you expected The Kraken s Mirror by Maureen O Betita is such a book I had a feeling I would like it, [...]

    9. I have mixed feelings about this one One the one hand, 53 year old heroine Awesome I love that the hero 65 and heroine were non traditional But I would have appreciated it a little if the heroine didn t dwell so much on her gray hair and saggy boobs Alan repeatedly told her that it wasn t an issue for him, and they fucked like bunnies through the whole thing, so why bring it up every other chapter I also had issues with the world building The story starts and ends at a fantasy pirate fair, so i [...]

    10. I went into this book not knowing what to expect I d heard good and bad things about the story and had high hopes I would love it I did Oddly enough I don t usually read pirate romances, but this very unconventional time travel was quirky enough to hold my interest throughout the entire book Emily Pawes is definitely the oldest heroine I ve ever read, at fifty three, but her youthful attitude and laid back style worked well in the situation she inadvertently falls into Captain Alan Silvestri is [...]

    11. Passion is a whirlwind sort of in this story of time travel and love It shows that love and faith go far even when we have given up For Mrs Pawes and Allen their love is problematic because of his good luck curse and also the ship Mrs Pawes is on But they think that sneaking is best so they don t get found out In the end that doesn t work so well because Allen and Mrs Pawes are spotted at a ball in Tortuga by her crew members The leader of the ship which is one of Mrs Pawes s friends takes her i [...]

Love ya some pirate action Looking for something very different Then this will probably hit the spot for ya From the very first page it s clear that the author, Maureen Betita, is a pirate expert and has done her homework on this one from the pirate lingo, to the ship, and to the pirates themselves It s not just pirates were talking here, oh no Seriously, I now get why this is pirate punk NO SPOILERS HERE And it was a real refreshing change to read about a heroine who s 50 get swept away in her [...]

    13. On the bright side I love this idea of a magical Tortuga a little out of time with 16th century pirates and microwaves and ipods Probably inspired by old tv shows like The Fantastic Journey, the idea deserves 5 stars. On the other hand, the character development is minimal Emily really gets on my nerves the 1000th time she complains about her age wrinkles droopiness Geez And the way the story is told is sketchy and confusing On average this is a 3 stars book.

    17. This was a fun book that I am glad I got the chance to read I really enjoyed the characters and the world that has been created here As you can see from the description it is set in a mixture of times and worlds You have the modern period where Emily is from And you have the world she is transported too which is similar in concept to the idea of the Bermuda Triangle Things enter the world but they rarely find their way back to where they came from But everything is accepted and incorporated into [...]

    18. Okay, I don t read a lot of Romance as the genre just doesn t do much for me, but the reviews on this were good and I was intrigued because it featured older characters than the norm my age group It s always nice to see a book that realizes that our sex life doesn t die at 50 or before The book is a cross between fantasy and romance, but doesn t have a lot of depth or complexity as either The main character got on my nerves with her body issues, and all that crying She wasn t portrayed as a weak [...]

    19. A quick synopsis is the leading lady, Emily, falls through a portal at a Pirates Festival and ends up in the Caribbean in an alternate reality Chaos, fun and romance ensue This story takes the usual role model for stories, twists it inside out, turns it on its head and you are left with a brilliant story that has ipods and microwaves on board a pirate ship Emily is cast as normal to begin with but soon shows that she has quirks and a personality that will make sure she fits in admirably with the [...]

What a glorious surprise this book turned out to be I started reading it and was unwilling to put it down, and then, when I got to 75%, I stopped reading it diligently, for almost three days why, you may ask Because it was so darned good I didn t want it to be over But I finished it this morning, and here are my reflections.Excellent descriptions of the ships, the islands, the people, and the kraken and their magic, made me feel as though I were there The suspension of reality is definitely nece [...]

So, what to make of this one Tis muy caliente , for sure But, um to the review.Maureen O Betita casts an enchanting sea spell Our main character Emily finds the Kraken s Mirror at a pirate festival She is an easily relatable character, self conscious about her age and body She soon finds herself transported to the Caribbean, through a portal shaped like a mirror, wrapped with a kraken What a fun, lively place the Kraken s Caribbean is, with pirates and vampires and werewolves and castles and ipo [...]

When life brings contentmentLeft alone in the face of tragedy, Emily feels she is riding the waves until she is dragged under, that is until magic brings new meaning and love to her world and transports her somewhere completely new Where she finds Alan I was enthralled with the world that found themselves in This story was a great escape from the real world stresses and responsibilities I sat and read until I finished I want to read where they end up if there are other novels in this world

This was an entertaining time travel story but it did seem to contain a lot of erotic scenes I found myself forcibly overlooking obvious spelling and grammar errors and an occasional sentence that didn t quite make sense That said, I really enjoyed the read and would recommend it for something different.

    24. Fun and creative I had no trouble accepting the surreal Pirates of the Caribbean ish parallel world, which Betita describes well And it was certainly refreshing to see protagonists older than myself but still having grand adventures and awesome sex , rather than younger That s getting rarer, the older I get.

A wonderful romp What makes it special is that it s different from the main stream romance with setting, premise and characters Betita draws you into the world immediately almost as if you re a kid again flying to Never Never Land with Peter Pan I m on the lookout for a Kraken s Mirror of my own I can t wait to read the next one.

    26. What I loved of this book was its characters a 65 year old pirate and a 53 year old widow It s very uncommon find senior characters and even that they presents the challenges that age sometimes bring I loved their romance and how the book described physically and emotionally each one.
